GEMSTONE

Semi precious gemstones are desirable for their beauty, valuable in their rarity, and durable enough to be enjoyed for generations. Gemstones are among the most individual of nature's creations. No two are alike. They have been treasured since antiquity and have been worn for adornment for thousands of years. In later ages gemstones were used as symbols of power, to display wealth and status, or to protect the wearer.

Gemstones display an almost limitless variety in their beauty. They are as diverse as brilliant green striated malachite to the sparkling iridescence in Labradorite crystals. Agate patterns are bold and translucent jade is a work of art when backlit. Gemstones inspire our admiration and fascination. They are God's work of art.

We invite your to join us in our celebration of beauty. At Agape Tile you may select from our variety of over 30 semi-precious gemstones to add to your decor.

The choices are virtually unlimited. Lightweight seamless gemstone mesh backed sheeting may be custom-tailored to fit your space. With sheeting you can cover an entire wall or ceiling without a single grout joint. Other backings available are marble, fiberglass, porcelain, glass or honeycomb aluminum. Finished pieces may be ordered as slabs, tabletops, countertops, baseboards, tile accents, borders or as individual tiles or mosaics. Most gemstones are suitable for residential and commercial, interior or exterior floors. All are rated for aquatic installations including swimming pools and spas.

MURALS

Gemstone artwork is one of the most durable of masterpieces. It is a labor of love, as the artwork is time-consuming and labor-intensive. The only limit to complexity is one's pocketbook. The techniques used to create a gemstone mural are inlay or intarsia. The medium used for gemstone intarsia is typically a combination of solid materials in semi precious gemstone, marble, granite or onyx. Glass, metal or seashell may be added for spice.

As stone is a hard material, great patience is needed to create each masterpiece. Each gemstone mural is highly individual and varies by the artist and the technique used. For inlaid gemstone mural the area to contain the artwork is routed out by hand or tool. For an intarsia technique mural solid stones are handcut into shapes and laminated together. It may take a month to procure the materials that the client or artist desires to use in a gemstone mural. The stone must be of the proper thickness, color hue, etc. After procurement, the gem rough is cut into thin slabs that are ready for color picking. It takes many weeks to create a mural. Gemstone murals are expensive. Should you decide to commission our artist for a custom gem mural, you can expect a high price and a fairly long wait until you receive your finished piece. It is worth the wait.
