Glass of antiquity was rare and prized for it's beauty by jewelers of old. Volcanic Turkish obsidian glass was used in Egypt during the time of the pharaohs. Modern glass reminds us of that ancient volcano. Libyan Desert glass was the result of meteorite impacts. It was as valued as a precious stone. Tutankhamen's scarab incorporates Libyan Desert Glass.
Born in fire, glass is practically imperishable and frost proof. The addition of sand to the top layer makes it slip resistant. Glass can be molded, shaped, poured or painted with other glass or metals. Many artisans encase other materials within the glass itself. Glass is almost always rubenesque with rounded edges.
